event send mobs racing

in ragged circles like birds

at the report
of a gun.

 

But wait, these are kids

at recess having fun on

the first warm day and 

rather than seek shelter, 
they long to stay
in this whirl of

chaos.

 

Yes, it’s getting hard

to discern rapture from abject

terror.

Both fall loosely

in the category of feeling

alive.
